General comments
ETEC (Enterotoxische Escherichia coli), EPEC (Enteropathogene Escherichia coli), EIEC (Enteroinvasieve Escherichia coli), EAEC (Enteroaggregatieve Escherichia coli): Geen behandeling, tenzij ernstige infectie met sepsis.
Bij STEC/EHEC: voorkom behandeling met fluoroquinolones vanwege toename toxineproduktie en verhoogde kans op ontwikkeling HUS.
Shigatoxineproducerende Escherichia coli/enterohemorragische Escherichia coli-infectie is een meldingsplichtige ziekte groep B2.
